Mill Lane is a really useful and well-used east-west cycle route, connecting Alderley Edge to Adlington and up towards Middlewood Way, but it’s also basically just an awful rat-run cut-through for people trying to skip a bit of the B5358. You can guarantee you WILL be close-passed or overtaken at an awful moment. Closing it to through traffic might seem radical, but it would have no negative impact on motorists journeys and yet make a massive improvement to the safety and accessibility of cycling in this area. At the very least, it needs major traffic calming works, why shouldn’t it be a “Quiet Lane” with a 20/30mph limit?
