The route under the railway bridge heading east has intentionally been made into a chicane to force traffic heading west to give way. Unfortunately a significant number of motorists ignore cyclists and fail to cede way to them meaning the cyclist is put at risk when travelling down hill and forced to stop. Consideration could be given to reducing the width of the footway to provide a separate cycle lane (with raised kerb or other physical separation) which gave cyclists a safe route west to east whilst leaving motorised traffic to give way between themselves as and when required.
