I'm not sure what the legal status of this route is but you can open the gate to reach the quieter service road. This is a useful shortcut if you're headed west, toward Lymn.

A steep cobbled street in Macclesfield called Back Wallgate.

Another section of cleared footway, while not a cycle lane this allows people to cycle between Linnards Lane and the [heavily overgrown] cycle crossing just past Ascot Drive. The footway narrows somewhat at the bridge, so users must be car ... [more]

This footway has recently been cleared of overgrowth and, while not a legal cycle lane, is a very useful means of cycling between Linnards Lane and Plumley Moor Road without using the carriageway (which is quite dangerous).

Towers Road - a great quiet (but indirect) alternative to the 'mad mile' into Poynton from Stockport.
